Project - Collage Freebie

Are you making Valentine's Cards this year?  I wish I was, but what a busy week... and my studio is too cold with our temperatures below freezing again.  I always have the best intentions to make cards and mail them out.  Another year, perhaps. 
This is one of my fun, quirky images - from a vintage postcard.  They look a little awkward, don't they?

It would be a cute one to use in a collage or on a card, the postmark on the front reduces its collectible value, but makes it more interesting in a piece of art.  This one is vintage, but was mailed to me in the 80's. To borrow this image for your own art or craft usage, right click and save to your computer. Personal use only, please. Feel free to use it for your collages and Valentine's cards.

Eerie Resemblance

I spent part of today scanning old postcards and photo cards for my Postcards, etc. Blog.  I came across this interesting photo card.

It's just another vintage photo card - a bit blurry because the dog moved.  It has no distinguishing markings on the back, but it was sent from my uncle to my parents in 1960's. 

What is interesting about this card, is that the woman looks remarkably like my mom, although she wasn't the woman in the photo.

Post Card Collage # 2

Here is another postcard collage.  This one uses an 8 x 10 flat canvas.  I have sprayed the canvas with Walnut Ink.  (Walnut Ink is great for aging something, or giving a rustic feel.)  I applied various papers, stickers, rub-ons, and a vintage postage stamp. And, of course, this saucy western cowgirl postcard. 

I love the Mae West quote:

Whenever I have to choose between two evils,

I always like to try the one I haven't tried before.

Post Card Collage

I have an extensive postcard collection, which you can view at my other blog, Postcards, etc.  I am in a quandary about what to do with all those cards.  Trash them?  Sell them?  Recycle?  Use them?  I find it hard to do any of the above.  I do, however, scan them and use the images. 

This collage uses a vintage postcard - a nifty fifty's one with the lady and the horse.  How very Dale Evans.  I have scanned the original, and used a smaller printed version of the card.  I also used a vintage - original Cold Remedy label, original vintage stamps - to go with the post card-y theme, and store bought embellishments (rub-ons, stickers, etc.) My favorite thing, perhaps, is the quotation by Marilyn Monroe.  I love using words in my collages!  (I guess I can't help that I was an English major.)  The entire piece is mounted on an 8 x 8 canvas and sealed.   

I love the overall effect - a little vintage, a tad western, a little kitsch, a bit artsy.  The message is fun, too.  Who wouldn't agree with Marylin Monroe:

I don't mind living in a man's world,
as long as I get to be a woman in it.
